Occupy wall street has been one of the biggest political statements since the revolution. Its attracted people from all political denominations, races, and ages and is present in almost all states and even in different countries like Japan. Interestingly enough they still receive a sort of stereo-type of what kind of person supports the movement and attends the protest. I have paid pretty close attention to the movement and even attended it. as far as this image i think it pretty much sums up the categorization that most media portrays the as the "typical goer" and the separation they have from society. To me this is represents the civilized vs. uncivilized. Like Stewart Hall said, that there has to be a representation and classification within a society in order to have order. This individual on the right shows the juxtaposition between the authoritative figure standing up for the rest of the rational civilized world. The protesters have constantly been subject to generalizations from media corporations. FOX news is among the most critical using adjectives like "hippies", "dirty", "jobless" etc. I think Stewart Hall would like at this as a something that goes against classification, which in his video he states causes a lot of issues. These protectors are stepping out of their classification to voice something by putting the hierarchy in an uncomfortable position.
Ha ha. Yes, we are sharing the same topic because we are experiencing it together now. I just added some lyrics from "Jar of Hearts" to my post actually. lol. The media do have some directions to lead people's attitude. But I do not think that it works this time since the fact is the fact! There is nothing need to be discussed. We are who we are for we are the 99%. And that is why people all over the world (almost...You are asking China? Oh... You know what a government we have..just think about the ban of Google and Facebook. We are 99.99% there indeed. lol) Also, thanks for your link, I finally can get a view from America now. :)
