Black and White

As we all know the world we live in is not just black and white. I chose this image because while it portrays an overall positive, "non-racist," message, I read it as a vague statement. I think too many people become enveloped in the notion that a racial situation is between blacks and whites. We can't just look at this photo and believe that a racial issue will be solved because these two hands have come together. If anything, to complete the idea this photo is trying to portray, the picture should have a multitude of races coming together in hand. After seeing this image, I read what most people would read it as, a positive step in humanity. Although having this initial reaction, I couldn't help but think that this is only the first step in coming together as humans. If we only think of bettering a race issue through two types of race, then the issue won't be solved. To resolve the real issue, it is going to take each and every individual, of each race, working together to make what this photo is trying to portray.
